Orlando Family Law Attorney Shannon Akins is a native Floridian and grew up in the College Park area. Ms. Akins is a member of the Florida Bar and the Family Law Section. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law in 1989 and is admitted to practice in Florida state courts, Florida federal district courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Prior to law school, she earned a B.A. in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations and graduated with honors from the University of Florida. She is also trained as a court-appointed arbitrator.
Ms. Akins is a highly experienced appellate attorney with an extensive background in both state and federal appeals and has successfully advocated for her clients in the Florida Supreme Court, Florida District Courts of Appeal, federal Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Supreme Court, with numerous published opinions. A former staff attorney for nearly ten (10) years to the Florida Fifth District Court of Appeal, she developed a unique understanding of the complexities of the appellate process from the inside out. Ms. Akins provides invaluable assistance to the firm through her strategic analysis, legal research and skilled briefing in our more complex cases. An essential member of our trial team, Ms. Akins is able to provide trial support with a focus on spotting and preserving issues and positioning cases for appellate review.
